Associate Claims Counsel
Old Republic Title is seeking an Associate Claims Counsel to evaluate, manage, and resolve title insurance claims nationwide. This role is ideal for entry-level attorneys looking to apply their legal training in a practical setting and gain hands-on experience managing complex matters.
Responsibilities
- Process and manage title claims from states on a national level
- Claims management includes investigating and determining coverage, correspondence with insured as to coverage and status: statutory compliance resolving title defects, directing defenses with outside counsel, negotiating settlements mitigating losses for the company, determining agent liability, and pursuing/preserving recovery
- Review and track expenditures related to claims
- Negotiate claim settlements and obtain approval where necessary
- Own a customer’s issue from initial contact to resolution or transition the issue to the appropriate person
- Ensure company policies and financial controls are understood and uniformly followed and administered and ensure work activities are carried out in compliance with federal, state and local laws
Skills
- Juris Doctor
- Licensed to practice law
- If not licensed by the state bar at employee's office location, they must be permitted to act as corporate counsel in that state
- Knowledge of title insurance and real estate closing transactions is preferred; however, strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills with an interest in real estate/title law will also be considered
- Aptitude for processing and organizing large volume of documentation and written communications
- Written and verbal communications are clear, grammatically correct and business appropriate
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects
- Problem solving ability to effectuate solution for covered claims
- Knowledge of title insurance and real estate closing transactions
