[Remote] Junior Data Engineer

The Junior Data Engineer plays a key role in enabling data-driven decision making by supporting the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines, models, and analytics solutions across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to support data initiatives

- Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues
- Support the delivery of data solutions that enhance member experience and service delivery
- Ensure data supports accurate, timely insights that benefit members and internal teams alike
- Understand how data products ultimately support member outcomes and organizational goals
- Assist in building, maintaining, and optimizing data pipelines and integrations
- Support data ingestion, transformation, and validation processes
- Contribute to the development of analytics-ready datasets and semantic models
- Leverage modern data and cloud platforms to improve efficiency and scalability
- Support accurate and reliable reporting through high-quality data practices
- Assist in automating data processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort
- Contribute to analytics and insights that support sound financial and operational decisions
- Maintain documentation to ensure sustainability and knowledge sharing
- Follow data governance, privacy, and security standards
- Support data accuracy, lineage, and consistency across systems
- Identify and escalate data quality issues or risks in a timely manner
- Contribute to responsible handling of sensitive and confidential information
Skills
- Completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field
- 0–2 years of experience in a data, analytics, or technical role (co-op or internship experience considered an asset)
- Foundational knowledge of data concepts including databases, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling
- Experience or exposure to SQL and relational databases
- Familiarity with data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Power BI or similar)
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- High attention to detail with an appreciation for data quality and integrity
- Comfortable learning and working with new technologies in a fast-changing environment
- Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Excel, Teams, Power Platform exposure an asset)
- Ability to write clear documentation and technical notes
