Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Long‑Term Substitute Teacher to lead our High School English program, focusing on British Literature, for the Fall 2023 semester. This full‑time assignment begins immediately and will run for a minimum of 12 weeks, extending through the end of the fall term as needed. The successful candidate will deliver rigorous, engaging instruction, manage a diverse classroom, and collaborate with faculty to uphold the high academic standards and Catholic values that arenaflex embodies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver comprehensive lessons on British literary works ranging from Shakespeare and Milton to contemporary voices, aligning with state standards and arenaflex’s curriculum framework.
  • Utilize the 1:1 tablet environment to integrate digital resources, interactive assessments, and multimedia content that deepen student understanding and foster independent inquiry.
  • Maintain a well‑organized, respectful classroom atmosphere through proactive behavior management strategies, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning space for all students.
  • Assess student performance through formative and summative evaluations, providing timely, constructive feedback that guides academic growth.
  • Collaborate with department colleagues to plan interdisciplinary projects, share best practices, and contribute to faculty meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Participate in school‑wide events, including assemblies, parent‑teacher conferences, and community service initiatives, reflecting the Catholic and Marianist mission of service, justice, and peace.
  • Support the integration of technology by troubleshooting tablet usage, recommending educational apps, and modeling effective digital pedagogy for peers.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, or a closely related field.
  • Certification: Valid teaching credential for secondary education; a master’s degree or additional certification in English or British Literature is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Proven high‑school teaching experience, preferably within a Catholic or faith‑based educational setting.
  • Classroom Management: Demonstrated ability to create an engaging, orderly environment that promotes student accountability and respect.
  • Technology Proficiency: Comfort with integrating tablets, learning management systems, and digital assessment tools into daily instruction.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with a talent for articulating complex literary concepts in accessible language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in English, Comparative Literature, or Education.
