Why This Role Matters
The Senior Data Engineer you will become is a cornerstone of arenaflex’s Information Designing Group (inside DDSI). This team is responsible for turning raw data into actionable insights that power product development, marketing strategy, and operational excellence across all arenaflex studios and project teams. By designing, building, and maintaining robust ETL/ELT pipelines, you will enable data‑driven decision‑making at scale, ensuring that the right information reaches the right people at the right time.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement end‑to‑end ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL, Python, and modern orchestration tools such as Apache Kafka and Airflow.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders—including studio leads, product managers, and analytics engineers—to gather data requirements, define data models, and validate data quality.
- Develop and maintain data models (schemas, tables, views) in Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and other cloud data warehouses, ensuring they are optimized for performance and scalability.
- Automate data ingestion and transformation from a variety of sources, including on‑premise databases, S3 buckets, and streaming platforms.
- Implement data governance best practices, including data lineage, documentation, and security controls across DEV, QA/UAT, and production environments.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize pipeline performance, proactively identifying bottlenecks and recommending architectural improvements.
- Champion best‑in‑class processes for data engineering, contributing to standards, code reviews, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using GitLab and Docker.
- Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge through brown‑bag sessions, internal wikis, and community of practice initiatives.
- Stay current with emerging technologies—including Databricks, Snowflake, and serverless architectures—to keep arenaflex at the forefront of data innovation.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience writing complex SQL queries and optimizing database performance.
- At least 2 years of experience designing, building, and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines in a production environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with cloud platforms, preferably AWS (including S3, IAM, and related services).
- 3 + years of professional experience in a data engineering role, with a strong focus on data modeling and pipeline reliability.
- Solid programming skills in Python, including familiarity with libraries such as pandas, sqlalchemy, and boto3.
- Experience working with data lake architectures, data warehouses, and large‑scale data sets (tens of terabytes or more).
- Hands‑on experience with containerization (Docker) and version control (GitLab/GitHub) for collaborative development.
- Exposure to streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka (referred to as “Wind stream” in internal documentation) and real‑time processing frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications & Nice‑to‑Have Skills
- Master’s degree or advanced certifications in data engineering, cloud architecture, or related disciplines.
- Professional experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or similar cloud‑native data platforms.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure‑as‑code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Background in the media, streaming, or digital advertising sectors, providing context for arenaflex’s core business.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI to support downstream analytics.
- Experience implementing data security and compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) in cloud environments.
Core Skills & Competencies
