Why arenaflex?

At arenaflex, we are redefining the future of aviation‑related data services by blending cutting‑edge technology with a culture that values curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning. Our mission is to empower every employee to innovate, grow, and deliver exceptional experiences to the millions of passengers we serve daily. As a globally recognized leader in the airline industry, arenaflex offers a dynamic, inclusive environment where remote talent can thrive alongside on‑site teams, driving transformative projects that shape the way people travel.

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Data Engineer to join our Remote Technology Hub. This role is perfect for a data‑driven professional who enjoys solving complex, multi‑dimensional problems, designing scalable data architectures, and delivering actionable insights that influence strategic decisions across the organization. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams—including product, design, analytics, and executive leadership—to build robust data pipelines, optimize data delivery, and champion best practices in cloud‑based data engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain large‑scale, high‑performance data pipelines that ingest, transform, and load (ETL) data from diverse sources such as delimited text, fixed‑width files, XML, JSON, and Parquet.
  • Architect and implement cloud‑native data lake solutions on AWS, leveraging services like S3, Redshift, Glue, and Athena to ensure data reliability, security, and cost‑efficiency.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and analytics teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications, delivering data products that enable real‑time operational dashboards and predictive analytics.
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies, recommending process improvements that increase scalability, reduce latency, and automate manual workflows.
  • Mentor junior engineers and data analysts, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, code quality, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) best practices.
  • Partner with external vendors and third‑party service providers to integrate their solutions seamlessly into arenaflex’s data ecosystem, ensuring compliance with internal governance policies.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring, alerting, and data quality frameworks to proactively identify and resolve data anomalies.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies—including sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming—to ensure timely delivery of high‑impact features.
  • Contribute to the creation and enforcement of data governance standards, security protocols, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Occasionally travel to arenaflex headquarters or regional hubs for training, team‑building events, and strategic planning sessions (travel is limited and reimbursed).

Essential Skills & Abilities

  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS), data lake architecture, and modern ETL tools. Proficiency in SQL, Python, and Scala is required.
  • Analytical Acumen: Ability to dissect complex data problems, synthesize large data sets, and present clear, actionable insights to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Problem‑Solving Judgment: Strong critical‑thinking skills to evaluate multiple solution pathways, assess trade‑offs, and select optimal approaches.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating technical concepts to executive leadership and collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated experience guiding junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment, and driving team performance.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating fast‑paced, evolving environments while maintaining focus on quality and delivery timelines.
  • Regulatory Insight: Understanding of data privacy, security standards, and compliance requirements relevant to the airline and travel industry.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data engineering, with a strong emphasis on cloud‑based data lake solutions and ETL processes.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling data pipelines that support mission‑critical applications.
  • Hands‑on experience with AWS services (S3, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, Kinesis) and modern data orchestration tools such as Airflow or Prefect.
  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and participation in Scrum or Kanban frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Data Analytics, or Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer.
  • Background in the airline, travel, or logistics sectors, providing context for operational performance and customer acquisition metrics.
  • Exposure to machine learning pipelines and data science workflows, enabling tighter integration between engineering and analytics teams.
  • Experience implementing data governance frameworks, data cataloging tools (e.g., AWS Glue Data Catalog, Apache Atlas), and security best practices.

Compensation & Benefits

arenaflex offers a competitive total rewards package designed to attract and retain top talent. While exact figures may vary based on experience and location, successful candidates can expect:

  • Base salary ranging from $137,250 to $152,500 annually, commensurate with expertise and market benchmarks.
