Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our remote team. In this pivotal role, you will design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines and architectures that power critical analytics and machine‑learning initiatives across arenaflex’s diverse business units. You will partner with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate complex data requirements into scalable, reliable, and secure solutions that meet the highest standards of data quality and governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement end‑to‑end data pipelines that ingest, transform, and store large volumes of structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources.
  • Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using Python, SQL, and modern data‑orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
  • Design and optimize data models, data warehouses, and data lakes on cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred, with experience in AWS or Azure considered a plus).
  • Collaborate closely with the Data Science team to operationalize machine‑learning models, ensuring seamless integration into production workflows.
  • Implement data quality frameworks, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms to guarantee data integrity, availability, and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Lead the evaluation and adoption of emerging data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Delta Lake) to continuously improve performance and cost‑efficiency.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices in data engineering, security, and documentation.
  • Participate in cross‑functional agile ceremonies, providing technical insight and helping shape product roadmaps based on data capabilities.
  • Document architectural decisions, data lineage, and operational procedures to support knowledge sharing across the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands‑on data engineering experience, with a proven track record of building production‑grade data pipelines.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python; deep understanding of relational databases, data warehousing concepts, and query optimization.
  • Cloud Expertise: Demonstrated experience designing and deploying data solutions on cloud platforms—Google Cloud Platform (preferred), Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Data Modeling: Ability to design logical and physical data models that support analytical workloads and operational reporting.
  • Communication & Problem‑Solving: Strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with analytical thinking and the ability to translate business needs into technical specifications.
  • Industry Knowledge (Preferred): Familiarity with healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR, HIPAA) and experience working within the health‑care or wellness sector.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Experience with big‑data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, or PySpark.
  • Hands‑on exposure to data visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI) and reporting frameworks.
  • Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines for data workloads.
  • Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks, especially as they relate to protected health information (PHI).
  • Prior involvement in building real‑time streaming pipelines using technologies like Apache Kafka or Google Pub/Sub.
  • Certification in cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, AWS Certified Big Data – Specialty) is a plus.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to dissect complex data problems, identify root causes, and propose elegant, scalable solutions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working in a distributed, remote environment, building strong relationships with cross‑functional teams across time zones.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑changing environment, quickly learning new tools and technologies as business needs evolve.
  • Ownership: Take end‑to‑end responsibility for data pipelines, from design through production monitoring and incident resolution.
  • Quality Focus: Commitment to data accuracy, consistency, and reliability, ensuring that downstream analytics are trustworthy.
