About arenaflex

Welcome to arenaflex, a global leader in digital entertainment, where innovation meets imagination to bring unforgettable stories and experiences to more than 200 million members across 190+ countries. At arenaflex, we are not just shaping the future of streaming — we are redefining what it means to play, watch, and connect. As we expand our footprint into the dynamic world of interactive entertainment, our Games division stands at the forefront of a bold new frontier. This is your chance to join a pioneering team that is helping to engineer the data backbone of next-generation gaming experiences for a rapidly growing global audience. If you are passionate about data, technology, and the power of play, arenaflex offers the perfect environment to launch and accelerate your career.

The Opportunity

arenaflex’s Data Science and Engineering (DSE) organization is on a mission to leverage data, analytics, and scientific thinking to enhance every facet of our business. We are looking for a curious, driven, and detail-oriented Entry Level Data Engineering Specialist to join our Games DSE team. In this role, you will help build the data pipelines that power critical insights into both individual game performance and our broader game portfolio. You will partner closely with our internal Game Studio teams and external game development partners, working together to determine what data should be collected, how it should be modeled, and how it can be transformed into meaningful metrics that inform strategy and delight our members.

This is a rare ground-floor opportunity. You will be immersed in a fast-moving, highly collaborative environment where your contributions will directly shape how a arenaflex membership translates into world-class gaming experiences. Whether you are designing scalable pipelines, developing advanced retention metrics, or integrating telemetry from exciting new titles, your work will have a measurable impact on millions of players worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

As a Data Engineering Specialist on the Games DSE team, your day-to-day work will include a blend of engineering, analysis, and collaboration. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, building, and maintaining efficient, scalable, and flexible data pipelines capable of processing both structured and unstructured datasets at significant volume.
  • Developing a deep, end-to-end understanding of the emerging games domain within arenaflex, including player behavior, engagement patterns, monetization models, and retention drivers.
  • Partnering closely with game studio leads to define and develop high-level metrics for games, including retention, session length, churn, and lifetime value.
  • Collaborating with arenaflex’s internal game studios — including Night School, Next Games, Boss Fight, and Spry Fox — to ingest relevant game metrics and telemetry into the broader arenaflex data ecosystem.
  • Working alongside the arenaflex SDK team and external game partners (such as Gameloft and other leading developers) to ensure seamless data collection through the arenaflex Games SDK.
  • Joining a world-class team of data engineers with diverse skillsets, partnering intimately with analytics engineering and data science colleagues to deliver reliable, well-modeled data products.
  • Documenting data flows, data dictionaries, and pipeline architectures to support transparency and knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Participating in code reviews, design discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives to elevate engineering quality across the organization.

Essential Qualifications

We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about building intuitive data products and who bring a solid technical foundation. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Java, Python, or Scala, with a minimum of 2 years of programming or data engineering experience (academic projects, internships, and personal projects are highly valued).
  • Strong working knowledge of advanced SQL, including complex joins, window functions, and query optimization.
  • Hands-on experience engineering data pipelines using modern big data technologies such as Hive, Presto, Spark, or Flink, ideally on medium to large-scale datasets.
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud resources, including S3, EC2, RDS, and related services.
  • A demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into scalable, flexible data models and pipeline designs.
  • A passion for excellence, continuous learning, and growing your craft in a fast-paced, supportive environment.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will help you stand out as a candidate:

  • Exposure to data orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Dagster, or similar workflow managers.
  • Experience working with telemetry, event-based data, or gaming analytics.
  • Familiarity with data modeling concepts, including dimensional modeling, star schemas, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Understanding of data quality, data governance, and observability best practices.
  • Prior experience working in a cloud-native, distributed systems environment.
  • Contributions to open-source data engineering projects or active engagement in the data community.

Skills and Competencies for Success

Beyond technical expertise, the most successful members of our team bring a particular mindset and set of soft skills. At arenaflex, we value:

  • Curiosity: A genuine desire to understand the “why” behind the data and to ask probing questions that lead to deeper insights.
  • Collaboration: The ability to work effectively across functions, time zones, and disciplines — from engineers to analysts to game designers.
  • Ownership: A sense of accountability for your work, your pipelines, and the outcomes they enable.
  • Adaptability: Comfort working in an evolving, fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly.
  • Communication: The ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and to tell compelling stories with data.
  • Continuous Learning: A growth-oriented attitude and a willingness to experiment with new tools, frameworks, and approaches.

Career Growth and Learning Opportunities

Joining arenaflex means joining a company that believes in investing in its people. As an Entry Level Data Engineering Specialist, you will be surrounded by some of the brightest minds in data and entertainment, with ample opportunities to grow your career. We offer:

  • Generous learning and development budgets, including conference attendance, certifications, and online courses.
  • A clear career path with well-defined expectations and growth opportunities into roles such as Senior Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, Data Scientist, or Engineering Manager.
  • Cross-functional project opportunities that allow you to expand your skills beyond core data engineering.
  • An environment that encourages experimentation, innovation, and the pursuit of bold ideas.
