Project Manager 1 - Signage

KDN Signs is a veteran-owned, MBE-certified sign company specializing in the permitting, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of commercial signage throughout the Midwest. The Project Manager 1 (PM1) will manage signage projects from handoff through completion, coordinating various activities while ensuring strong client communication and project profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple signage projects from project handoff through closeout
  • Coordinate permitting, surveys, engineering, fabrication, shipping, and installation activities
  • Monitor project schedules and ensure milestones are achieved
  • Identify project risks and proactively develop solutions
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients
  • Provide regular project updates regarding schedules, approvals, fabrication status, and installation timelines
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication and responsiveness
  • Create and maintain project schedules within company software platforms
  • Coordinate activities between clients, vendors, municipalities, subcontractors, fabrication teams, and installation crews
  • Ensure all project stakeholders are informed of schedule changes and critical deadlines
  • Track project budgets, labor, subcontractor costs, and material expenses
  • Assist with invoicing, pay applications, and project billing
  • Identify and process change orders when project scope changes occur
  • Support efforts to maintain project profitability
  • Coordinate surveys, engineering, permitting, fabrication, freight, crane services, electrical contractors, and installation subcontractors
  • Review vendor proposals and schedules
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with project requirements and safety standards
  • Review surveys, shop drawings, permitting documents, and fabrication submittals for accuracy
  • Verify completed work meets project specifications and company quality standards
  • Coordinate punch-list completion when required
  • Maintain organized project files, including contracts, permits, drawings, approvals, change orders, and correspondence
  • Update project management software and company reporting tools regularly
  • Provide status updates during project review meetings
  • Address project challenges quickly and professionally
  • Escalate significant schedule, budget, or client concerns when appropriate
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop effective solutions

Skills

  • 1+ years of project coordination or project management experience
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in the signage, construction, architectural, branding, or related industries
  • Experience with Smartsheet, Jobber, QuickBooks, or other project management software
  • Understanding of permitting, fabrication, installation, or construction processes
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Project Management, or a related field
