Why This Role Matters

As a Remote Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of our data ecosystem, shaping how information is collected, stored, validated, and delivered to internal teams and external partners. This entry‑level position offers a unique blend of hands‑on technical work, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to real‑world data challenges that will accelerate your career in data engineering and analytics.

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Design and implement data pipelines that ingest raw, structured, semi‑structured, and unstructured data from a variety of sources using both batch and real‑time processing frameworks.
  • Develop, test, and document scripts and programs following arenaflex’s coding standards, ensuring maintainability, scalability, and compliance with security policies.
  • Plan and execute data storage strategies that balance performance, cost, and security, leveraging cloud‑based data lakes, warehouses, and relational databases.
  • Implement data quality frameworks that automatically detect anomalies, missing values, and inconsistencies, and trigger remediation workflows.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders—including data scientists, product managers, and business analysts—to understand data requirements and translate them into robust engineering solutions.
  • Partner with external data providers to validate incoming feeds, provide feedback, and customize data mappings to meet arenaflex’s standards.
  • Mentor junior team members by sharing best practices, reviewing code, and offering technical guidance on data engineering concepts.
  • Document architecture decisions and maintain comprehensive metadata catalogs to support data governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies in data processing, cloud platforms, and automation tools, recommending improvements that enhance efficiency and reliability.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following core qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • At least 2 years of hands‑on experience in data engineering, data analysis, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency with SQL and at least one programming language commonly used in data pipelines (e.g., Python, Java, or Scala).
  • Familiarity with cloud data services such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience working with data processing frameworks like Apache Spark, Flink, or Hadoop.
  • Understanding of data modeling concepts, including normalization, denormalization, and schema design.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to troubleshoot data quality issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear documentation and effective collaboration across distributed teams.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Assets

While not required, the following experiences will set you apart from other candidates:

  • Hands‑on experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying data pipelines.
  • Exposure to orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, or Luigi.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and best practices for data privacy.
  • Familiarity with streaming platforms like Apache Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar.
  • Previous involvement in mentoring or leading small technical teams.
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, Azure Data Engineer Associate).
